Hailing from the vibrant city of Toledo, Ohio, George P. Lee, III, emerged as the elder sibling in a family marked by the legacies of the late George P. Lee, Jr., and the late Estell Lee. George’s educational journey began in Toledo’s public schools, culminating with his graduation from the esteemed Macomber-Whitney Vocational Technical High School. Fueling his intellectual pursuits, he later ventured to Fisk University, where he not only pursued academic excellence but also became an integral part of the Grammy Award-winning Fisk Jubilee Singers.

Continuing his educational journey, George attained his B.A. degree with departmental honors in Religion/Philosophy from Fisk. Eager for more, he delved into the realms of Homiletics at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, securing a Master of Divinity degree in 1998. Undeterred by challenges, he soared to new heights in December 2008, standing proudly among the 200 graduates of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in African American Church Studies. His groundbreaking dissertation, «Thomas A. Dorsey’s Influence on African-American Worship,» stands as a testament to his dedication to his faith, its history and rich heritage.

Rev. Lee’s spiritual journey commenced at an early age when he was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Toledo. An active and highly engaged parishioner, he served not only as a choir director but also emerged as a sought-after and respected youth motivational speaker. It was here that he received a divine calling to minister to the people of God, a calling that led to his licensing and ordination at Calvary.
